Karen Hoffman was born in Washington, DC and now lives in Raleigh, NC. She is a self-taught artist and has been painting for over 35 years. She began her life-long love of art as a teenager when her first summer job was at the National Gallery of Art. Family lore has it that she is a descendant of the celebrated 18th century French artist Jean-Baptiste Siméon Chardin.
The artist's four solo shows have been in Raleigh at Cameron Village Regional Library, the Women's Club, WakeMed and Sertoma Arts Center.
The artist has taken numerous painting and drawing classes. She studied in Provence under the nationally known New York artist Greg Kruetz and in Raleigh with widely recognized modern artists Bob Burridge and Bob Rankin.
She is a member of Raleigh's Visual Art Exchange and the North Carolina Museum of Art.
In December 2007, Karen left her position as President and CEO of a North Carolina-based nonprofit to pursue a second career as an artist.
